Food trucks carry romantic ideals of potential, creativity, and entrepreneurship. However, as the novelty of modern food trucks has waned, they have settled into everyday life in the Bay Area. The trucks might provide creative lunchtime alternatives to cafeterias or social gathering spaces around breweries or urban parks.
However, in Toledo, I witnessed how food trucks transform a gray, silent downtown into a lively urban center. I return to a time when food trucks evoked a capacity to change urban planning and provide economic revitalization.
